Juliette Rooney-Varga, Ph.D., is an internationally recognized expert in climate change and sustainability. Through her research, advocacy, and educational efforts, she is teaching 鈥 at the state, national and international levels 鈥 what it takes to understand and take action to mitigate climate change.

Rooney-Varga develops and uses interactive simulations in her work as an educator at UMass Lowell, where she is a professor of environmental science, directs the Climate Change Initiative, and co-directs the Rist Institute for Sustainability and Energy. These simulation-based, interactive approaches enable decision-makers at all levels of society 鈥 from students to policymakers - to learn about the complex climate and energy systems. Research shows these simulations also motivate evidence-based climate action.
