The Graduate Online Excellence Scholarship is an award offered to high achieving newly admitted master's students enrolling in online programs. Awardees will receive up to $4,000 in graduate scholarship funding.

Scholarship funds of $250 to $1,000 per semester will be awarded over four consecutive fall and spring semesters to students who maintain good academic standing in their programs. The award is available for up to five semesters to students pursuing a Master of Public Health degree.

While UMass Lowell's tuition and fees are competitive with other top graduate schools, the purpose of this award is to make our excellent master's programs even more affordable for you.

The scholarships are offered to students enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits. All eligible applicants will be automatically considered for the scholarship. No additional application is required. Students must apply by one of the priority deadlines (see below) for either the Fall 2025 start term, or Spring 2026, and pursue studies online.

Awardee Requirements:

  • Academic Criteria: To receive the scholarship, you must meet the academic standards required for acceptance into your program of interest. No separate application is required.
  • Program of Study: You must be admitted into one of UMass Lowell online Master鈥檚 degree programs.
  • Minimum Credits Requirement: You must take a minimum of 6 credits each semester.聽
  • Priority Application Deadlines: Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply by May 15 for the fall and July 15 for the spring term.
  • Enrollment Confirmation: Admitted students who are awarded a scholarship must submit their enrollment deposit within 21 days. If the deposit has not been submitted, the scholarship may be revoked.
  • Awarding Guidelines: Students who receive other tuition based awards, such as National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), National Science Foundation (NSF), Fulbright Scholarships, Research or Teaching Assistant appointments, or other employee tuition benefits may only apply one of these award towards their tuition; in these circumstances, UMass Lowell will always apply the award that is most advantageous to the student.

By accepting the Graduate Online Excellence Scholarship award you agree to the following conditions:

  • Must remain in good academic standing.
  • The award will be applied as a credit against tuition and fee charges, up to four semesters (5 semester in MPH degrees). This award is non-renewable.
  • You must register for your first semester classes as soon as possible. If you enroll in undergraduate courses as prerequisites, it is your responsibility to forward proof of the requirements by email to: scholarships@uml.edu.
  • This scholarship award will be administered according to Federal financial aid guidelines. If the Graduate Scholarship is combined with other merit-based or need-based aid, the total cannot exceed the cost of education or the amount of defined need as applicable.
  • Students receiving full tuition assistance such as Fulbright, Teaching Assistant (TA) / Research Assistant (RA), National Guard are not eligible.
