One of CELT's main objectives is to support municipalities in their clean energy transition through data-driven analyses and maps.Â
To plan and realize clean energy policies and projects, local and state agencies need access to high-quality, actionable data. Through its , Boston University (BU) brings to CELT its expertise in data science. The BU team leads the collection and curation of data for an equitable energy transition in Massachusetts, transforming existing data into accessible visualizations, stories, and analyses. These tools help municipalities make informed decisions that enhance climate resilience, reduce costs, and accelerate decarbonization. With this support, cities and towns can prioritize sustainable infrastructure, track progress toward carbon reduction goals, allocate adequate assistance to disadvantaged communities, and ensure that investments in clean energy projects are efficient and equitable.Â
In addition to data science and visualization, the BU research team brings interdisciplinary expertise to CELT in the areas of energy systems, geographic information systems, environmental justice, and stakeholder engagement. Additionally, the team supports data training, which is a key component of the CELT fellowship program. Faculty leadership includes Principal Investigator Emily Ryan from the College of Engineering, Cutler Cleveland from the College of Arts & Sciences, and Patricia Fabian from the School of Public Health. All three are Associate Directors at BU’s Institute for Global Sustainability.Â
